Identify Hydrocarbons in Your Pond

The compounds consisting of only carbon and hydrogen are called
hydrocarbons. The natural sources of hydrocarbons are petroleum (crude oil) and natural gas. Crude oil and natural gas occur organically deep inside the earth.
However, they should not be found in your detention pond systems.

Hydrocarbons can be visually identified as an iridescent
appearance or sheen on the surface of water.  When detected this caustic
pollutant should be immediately addressed and remediated.  Front Range
